Addiction
Research
and Treatment
Judith is
a member of the Addictions division of the American Psychological
Association (APA) and subscribes to the Psychology of Addictive
Behaviors journal.
She worked as the community services coordinator at the CareUnit Hospital
of Portland, Oregon, part of what was then the largest chain of
chemical dependency treatment centers in the nation (since closed). She
has participated in 12-step programs and recently reviewed portions of
the 2000 American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Review
Course in Addiction Medicine and the ASAM's Ruth Fox Course for
Physicians via audiotapes, including these sessions:
- Neurobiological
and Other Recent Developments in Addiction Research
- The
Scientific Basis of Addiction Treatment
- State
of the Art in Alcoholism Treatment
- Psychiatric
Issues in Addictions
She completed
all but two courses and her thesis for an MS in Educational
Psychology with a vocational rehabilitation counseling emphasis
before she had to discontinue her studies when her child died suddenly
and unexpectedly. That led to the demise of her marriage, too (a rather
common result of the death of a child, alas).
