Health
Information for Consumers
Judith
wrote feature articles for many national consumer magazines and daily
newspapers coast-to-coast for several years (see Publications)
and has written and edited Web copy since the Web existed.
Judith
already has more than 10 years of experience writing, editing and even
publishing newsletters. She added to that knowledge in early 2003 by taking
San Jose State University's course called Writing Newsletters for Biotech
and Health Companies.
Patient

Kaiser
Permanente Health Foundation's Member Marketing Department has been
one of Judith's clients since 2000. In November 2002, she took these three
workshops at the annual AMWA conference to enhance her skills (see sample

Health
Psychology
Judith is
a member of the Health Psychology division of the American Psychological
Association (APA) and subscribes to their Health Psychology
journal. She completed all but the last quarter of a master's degree
in Educational Psychology, with a vocational rehabilitation
counseling emphasis, before she had to discontinue her studies when
her child died suddenly and unexpectedly. That led to the demise of her
marriage, too (a rather common result of the death of a child, alas).
In 1997,
she completed the Spirituality and Health seminar conducted by
Harvard University Medical School's Division of Continuing Education,
which increased the interest she already had in the health ramifications
of psychology and spirituality. Until recently, she has pursued that fascination
through avid reading. Now she's going back to school again, slowly but
steadily, in the related but relatively new field of health psychology.
Addiction
Research and Treatment
Judith is
a member of the Addictions division of the American Psychological
Association (APA) and subscribes to the Psychology of Addictive
Behaviors journal.
She worked as the community services coordinator at the CareUnit Hospital
of Portland, Oregon, part of what was then the largest chain of
chemical dependency treatment centers in the nation (since closed). She
has participated in 12-step programs and recently reviewed portions of
the 2000 American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Review
Course in Addiction Medicine and the ASAM's Ruth Fox Course for
Physicians via audiotapes, including these sessions:
- Neurobiological
and Other Recent Developments in Addiction Research
- The
Scientific Basis of Addiction Treatment
- State
of the Art in Alcoholism Treatment
- Psychiatric
Issues in Addictions
Ergonomics
and Occupational Health
Judith developed,
researched and edited the initial issues of Ergovera
Ergonomic Consulting's newsletter on the latest studies in ergonomics.
She subscribes to the Journal of Occupational Health Psychology
and the E-PsycSCAN: Applied Psychology online research service,
which compiles journal reports on accidents and safety, human factors,
ergonomics and management and organizational psychology. She also did
the initial research for Ergovera Ergonomics Consulting's newsletter
and copyedited their ergonomic evaluation reports throughout 2002. In
the fall of 2003, she expanded her knowledge in this field by taking the
Emerging Workplace Safety and Legal Issues workshop at the American
Medical Writers Association (AMWA) annual conference.
