Medical Informatics

In 2002, Judith completed Stanford University School of Medicine's Medical Informatics Short Course, on campus, and joined the American Medical Informatics Association. She attended the Telehealth 2002 teleconference sponsored by the Association of Telehealth Service Providers (ATSP) and several workshops and presentations at the American Health Informatics Management Association (AHIMA) annual convention in San Francisco in September 2002. She continually updates her knowledge and skills, so in early 2003 she took the six-week Writing Newsletters for the Biotech and Health Informatics Industries course at San Jose State University.

As a contract writer, editor and researcher for Rowberg & Associates medical informatics consultants (Alan Rowberg, MD, principal) in Seattle, Judith has researched and reviewed literature and written a report on the background, progress over last five years, and current obstacles and opportunities in telemedicine, particularly in collaboration and consultation via the Internet. She also copyedited the research plan and abstract for a federal telemedicine grant proposal by Siemens and Partners HealthCare System (Massachusetts General Hospital); copyedited business proposals and program plan for federal grant for another well-known corporation; and edited medical journal articles by Dr. Rowberg about digital imaging communications (DICOM) in radiology for the Journal of Digital Imaging.

She's also writing and editing for a telemedicine consultant in Louisiana (company not yet announced).

She covers news highlights in medical, healthcare, and behavioral informatics in her monthly newsletter, Health News Monitor, and writes newsletters, Web copy, grant proposals and reports, and feature articles — plus edits all of those those as well as marketing communications collateral and technical documentation — for companies involved in medical or healthcare informatics, telemedicine and telehealth, e-health and related products or services. She also has eight years of experience in editing technical documentation, marketing copy and Web sites for technology companies, including Cisco Systems, Juniper Networks, Netscape Communications and Vocera Communications and other well-known corporations.
